The Lift is based in Glossop, Derbyshire celebrated its
10th anniversary in 2007. It operates as a collective and is one
of the longest running entirely voluntary global music clubs in
the UK. In the last 12 years we have put on over 200 concerts by
top quality national and international performers. Our main aim
is to celebrate the vitality of cultural diversity and this is reflected
in our programme of regular concerts and annual festivals (see our
archive page), together with occasional school and community based
music workshops.
Lift events are planned in the front rooms of houses and the back rooms of pubs, and take place at a number of venues in the town including the Town Hall and the Globe Hotel.
Recognition of our success and commitment to widening participation from all sections of the community has won support from High Peak Borough Council, Glossop Town Partnership, Derbyshire County Council, The Paul Graney Memorial Folk Trust and The Arts Council of England. The esteemed global music magazine Songlines has also featured us in a full page article.
And finally, for now, if you share our love of live music and have seen a live act that you think would fit into our programme, drop us a line and let us know.
